“It is precisely through Paul’s suffering that the reality of Christ’s person, the reliability of God’s Word, and the restoration of the Spirit are made known. Paul’s life is an embodiment of the gospel he preaches. It follows then that those who reject the cross of Christ as the power of God (cf. 1 Cor. 1:17-25) will also reject Paul because of his suffering (2:15-16a). Hence, one’s reaction to Paul is a reflection of one’s spiritual condition.”
